Courses I Taught at Google for Googlers
"Scaling AI to Google's Business Functions" (February - November 2023): Drawing upon my personal experience in launching AI-powered products, I created and taught this 1.5-hour live, interactive training program for Google employees. The course explored how AI can be successfully adopted and utilized within large enterprises. With 214 Google employees able to enroll and another 514 waitlisted, it quickly became one of Google’s most popular generative AI courses, achieving a 96% average satisfaction rating.
"LLM Research Leading to GPT4 and Bard" (February - November 2023): In this course, I provided an in-depth look into the research driving the development of large language models (LLMs). To illustrate key concepts, I examined 21 academic research papers on prominent LLMs, such as GNMT, Transformer, BERT, LaMDA, PaLM, LoRA, and GPT1-4. The course explored the technological advances of LLMs, including dataset curation and techniques such as RLHF (Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback). A total of 302 Google employees participated in the course.
"GenAI Beyond Google, Global Business Organization" (April - August 2024): I developed and delivered this live-instruction training course for Google employees. The course investigated current research in generative AI, examining work at OpenAI, Nvidia, Meta, HuggingFace, and Mistral. Topics included multi-agent workflows and retrieval-augmented generation systems. 130+ Google employees attended these trainings.
Speaking Engagements:
"The Purple Lloyd Problem" at Google DevFest, Mountain View, CA (December 2017): In this presentation, I shared my research on the risks of bias in AI, focusing on hiring algorithms. To demonstrate how easily bias can arise in AI systems, I used neural networks to conduct live experiments.
"Life of a ML Dataset" at the Annual Summit for Google Women Engineers (July 2018): This 15-minute presentation explored Google’s approach to curating high-quality training datasets for machine learning. I also examined how Google evaluates data quality.
"Disruptive Technology in Payments" at the IEEE Scalable Architecture Conference (Date and Location Not Specified): For this presentation, I provided an overview of how emerging technologies were disrupting the payments industry. The presentation was geared towards an academic audience of PhD and Masters students, as well as professors.
Online Video Content:
Cryptocurrency Mining (2019): I collaborated with YouTube to create a series of beginner-friendly videos on the fundamentals of Bitcoin mining.
Workshops (Internal to Google):
Two-Day Machine Learning Workshop for Product Teams (March 16-17, 2023): This company-wide Google workshop, which I co-taught with two other product managers, was geared towards providing product teams with a solid understanding of machine learning concepts and techniques. Content from this workshop was also tailored to specifically address the needs of Google's Global Users and Products (gUP) organization.
